my bunny got a bunny :)

my sweet rabbit {scrilla, the grey and white bunny} lost his best friend about a year and a half ago. i kept trying to convince myself that he was o.k. and didn't need another companion- he had me after all. the truth is, i lost my best friend too and it was devastating!- i wasn't o.k. getting another bunny felt like i was trying to replace my irreplaceable friend, or somehow i was forgetting her. but, after a long mourning period for both of us, i looked at my tiny little guy, laying on my office floor, and i knew he'd been alone long enough. bunnies are happier in pairs- they form incredibly strong bonds and go through life never leaving their partners side. it happened quickly after that- i found a sweet bunny that needed a home- an obese, rex rabbit named cinnabun. it was love at first sight. scrilla will flop on his back in front of his new bunny and wait to be kissed on the face. it almost brings a tear to my eye when i see him do this- an ambivalent mixture of pure joy to see him so happy and incredible sadness to think that i almost left him incomplete. he allowed this scraggly, not so perfect rabbit into his heart and home, no questions asked, and his love has been returned in full.
